A bunch of us at Steampunk Heaven are huge fans of video games. There’s tons of great ones out there, but in this article we want to cover some of best games that are influenced by Steampunk.

1. Bioshock Infinite

This awesome game was truly ahead of its time and features some truly gorgeous, steampunk inspired visuals.

The game itself is filled with fast paced and frenetic gun play (along with other potent abilities) that allows for a non stop fun ride throughout the entire game. Tack on a fantastic story filled with jaw dropping twists and turns and truly memorable characters, it’s no wonder this game is often considered one of the greatest of all time.

But what takes it to the next level for us fans here at Steampunk Heaven are the amazing visuals. Not just in terms of graphical fidelity but also because of the beautiful art style that is clearly influenced heavily by Steampunk.

One only has to glance at the world of this game to see the influences of Steampunk.

From the various character outfits, the weapons, the floating world, and to the large guardian Steampunk machine bird, this game is just dripping with Steampunk style.

2. 1886: The Order

Truly one of the most visually striking games ever released, it’s also filled with an extremely compelling movie worthy plot and story telling. But even better, this games is one of the most Steampunk inspired games out there.

The combination of great story, fun shooting mechanics, fantastic graphics make this a great game on its own. But the Steampunk influences make it a must have for any Steampunk fan.

3. Dishonored

This first person game is a cult favorite for a reason. Featuring a wickedly fun gameplay system that lets you choose your own play style (guns blazing or a more subdued stealth approach), awesome abilities for your character to obtain, a memorable story and a truly unique art style, it’s no wonder people are in love with this game.

But once again, it’s the Steampunk influences that bring this gem to the next level for us. You don’t have to look very far to see the fantastic Steampunk inspired visuals throughout every level. The characters, the weapons, the machines, and the environments all come together to make this one of the most immersive Steampunk games out there.

4. Thief

This first person stealth game is another fan favorite with an awesome Steampunk influence. The game is set in ‘The City’, a dark fantasy world inspired by Steampunk aesthetics. Players control a master thief who embarks on several missions focusing on stealing from the rich. The game allows players to choose between the action oriented and lethal approach, where players will kill enemies on their way to their destination, using knives and takedowns, or opt for the non-lethal stealthy approach, where players avoid conflict altogether. Players also may choose which path to take to their destination, as each location contains several branching paths.

Overall, Thief combines awesome gameplay that let’s you choose how you want to play, with a great story, and a fantastic Steampunk aesthetic. Definitely pick this up if you get the chance.

5. Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

This one goes out to all our horror fans out there. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a survival horror video game developed by The Chinese Room and published by Frictional Games. The game is an indirect sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. While set in the same universe as the previous game, it features an entirely new cast of characters and time setting. Throughout this terrifying and atmospheric horror game, you’ll explore a world inspired visually by Steampunk.

The art style on display here shows how well the Steampunk aesthetic can work in a horror setting. Although sometimes it can be hard to truly appreciate because of how terrifying this game can be. But regardless, if you’re a fan of Steampunk and horror then you don’t want to miss out.
